BCAC News:
The 21st Annual Chocolate Auction, which netted just over $6,000 in sales, was held on February 8th in the historic and beautiful Stony Point Hall. This year's event honored the life and art of Baldwin resident Tom Russell, who, at age 92, donated an original painting, "Ron's Hay Bales."
On the evening preceding the auction, 138 people bought tickets to attend the First Annual BCAC Dinner, provided by Traditions Weddings that included Baron of Beef, Chicken Marsala, green beans, garlic smashed potatoes, tossed salad, and a chocolate tort dessert. Participants also enjoyed their share of an infused vodka signature drink called "Very Berry Martini." Mitch Wiggins, the emcee-DJ from Traditions Weddings, conducted an entertaining dance contest that had each male participant dancing along with John Travolta in his famous Saturday Night Fever "Staying Alive" routine. The winner, Dave Hill, received a huge round of applause and a DVD of the movie. Many thanks go to the people of Traditions Weddings who donated a lot of time, effort, and costs to support the dining event. In addition, we appreciate others who sponsored tables and other donations: Baker University, Mid-America Bank, Baldwin State Bank, Sunflower Rental, Vintage Park Assisted Living and Stony Point Hall.
BCAC Events:
Stroll Through the Art Walks: Baldwin residents and visitors will have four opportunities this year to attend the popular and ever-growing BCAC Art Walks. Come to the downtown area (8th & High) and enjoy four special evenings of art, music, and other special features.
During each of the Art Walks, there are two $50 gifts awarded. The Patron's Award is drawn from tickets submitted by those in attendance. The winner can buy $50 worth of art from the participating artists. The second gift is the People's Choice Award, given to the artist identified as an evening favorite. First in the Art Walk line-up on June 19th, BCAC artists will share a weekend kick-off of Planes, Trains, & Automobiles, sponsored by the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce. There will be a free, family outdoor movie at 9:00 just east of the Lumberyard Arts Center. Looking for volunteers! The Arts Council is looking for volunteers to assist with the Art Walks, bake sales, Holiday Art Sale, Chocolate Auction, continuing art education through the recreation office or schools, and we are always open to participating artists in our various programs. Contact us through this website or give one of the Board members a call for more information. |
